Back to School: 60 Children, One Full Year in the Classroom
When we launched our Back to School campaign, we set ourselves a clear goal: fund a full year of school for 50 children in Kolwezi. Thanks to you, we didn't just reach that target we passed it!
Today, 60 children in Kolwezi have their tuition covered for the entire school year. Not a single term, not a deposit, but twelve full months of learning. Every place we set out to fund has been funded, and ten more besides.
Why This Matters
Kolwezi sits at the heart of the DRC's cobalt mining region. For many families there, survival depends on what can be dug out of the ground, and children are too often part of that work. Every child who isn't in school is at risk of spending their days in the mines instead.
That's why this campaign was never just about fees. Sixty children in a classroom are sixty children out of the mine.
What It Takes
Just £18 a month covers one child's education for a full year for UK taxpayers, adding Gift Aid turns that £18 into £22.50 at no extra cost.
This success belongs to everyone who took part: our monthly supporters, our one-off donors, and everyone who shared the campaign with friends and family. Every gift and every share helped get us here.
We're Not Stopping Here
The Back to School campaign is closed, but the classrooms are open, and the need hasn't gone away. Thousands of children across the DRC still face an impossible choice between school and survival.
If you'd like to help more children take their place at a desk, you can join our monthly giving community. £18 a month funds one child's school year, £48 funds two children plus our campaigning work to end child labour, and £99 puts five children in school while helping us fight to stop the next five from ever entering a mine.
Prefer to give once? Every one-off gift funds part of a place.
To everyone who made this possible: thank you. Together, we can get every child in the DRC into a classroom.
